Discussion and Dancing with Tiempo Libre

Cultural Discussion and Dancing with Tiempo Libre

Tiempo Libre explores the basic forms of rumba, in particular the Guaguancó, which combines percussion, voices, and dance. Using the traditional instruments: congas, cowbell, clave, etc, Tiempo Libre talks about and demonstrates the rhythms, inviting attendees to participate. The discussion will be led by Ruthie Meadows, an assistant professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her research focuses on poetics and aurality in the Hispanophone- and circum-Caribbean, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic and New Orleans.
