The Making of a Book: A Workshop

Literary The Making of a Book: A Workshop

Join us for this very special hands-on book-themed workshop, hosted by the University Libraries, featuring bookbinder and marbling artist Pietro Accardi. We'll start the workshop with a short talk and exploration of the University Libraries' book arts collection, housed in Special Collections and University Archives. You'll be inspired by these limited edition, hand-crafted, and unique volumes before we head downstairs to create your own handmade journal. Pietro will guide you through the process, using the ancient traditions of bookmaking and binding. You'll leave the workshop with new ideas, new skills and your very own journal. Seating is limited; please reserve your spot here: Instructor Pietro Accardi is native to the northwestern Italian city of Turin where his father Gaetano Accardi operated Tipografia Accardi, In 1950s Italy, it was a state of the art printing press. From a young age, he assisted his father in the bustling press. He later immersed himself in the more ancient traditions of paper marbling, restoration, and bookbinding.
