Reno Pops Orchestra Country Stars & Western Skies
Enjoy a family-friendly evening of music celebrating Nevada's people and landscapes, including favorite western movie soundtracks, and a guest performance by Country Music Hall of Famer, Lacy J. Dalton. Under the expert baton of conductor, Jane Brown, the Reno Pops will also perform the world premiere of After-Glow, by Jonathan Sokol. This symphonic poem depicts the captivating story from Bertha Raffetto's 1948 epic poem, The Ballad of Katie Hoskins, in which the composer depicts Katie's exceptional feat of courage, superior horsemanship, and endurance, during her nighttime ride across the high desert of Nevada to save the life of an innocent man. This historic piece is the creative result of a joint venture between RENEW, the Nevada Arts Council, Paul Fleming, Eileen Brownell, Jane Brown, the Reno Pops Orchestra, and the composer, and will surely join the catalogue of orchestral works honoring the legacy of Nevada's past and its brave pioneers. The evening's program will also feature the wildlife photography of Larry Neel to accompany sound scores by Aaron Copland, and Tahoe: Sierranade for Orchestra, by former Reno spiritual leader and Reno Pops Orchestra arranger, the late Gary Buchanan. Join us for a lovely evening under the stars, enjoying iconic music from Nevada's past, and the American West. Some of your favorite regional food trucks will be there, or feel free to bring your own picnic dinner to share with friends. FREE admission. (Donations gratefully accepted.
