Great Basin Basketmakers Open Studio

Other Great Basin Basketmakers Open Studio

Come by the Great Basin Basketmakers Open Studio at the Sparks Masonic Center on July 3 to learn more about our organization and to learn how to interweave (plait) repurposed paper strips into a basket. Free to observe. $5 material fee to participate. RSVP via email gbbreno@gmail.com, or call 775-622-4371. Founded in 1987, the Great Basin Basketmakers create a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional baskets. Some of us do not make baskets at all but enjoy learning about cultural differences expressed in basketry throughout the world. Although much of the material used in baskets is purchased, materials can also be found in fields, gardens, or can be repurposed man-made materials. The Great Basin Basketmakers welcome new members to share the joy of this art form. We meet the first Thursday of the month at 10am for a business meeting, followed by a Show & Tell, then a workshop or program beginning around 11am. The monthly workshops introduce a beginner to new techniques and present challenges to the more experienced basket maker.
