Yarn Art Workshop: Exploring Geometric Abstraction and Land Art with Artist Amadour
Yarn Art Workshop with artist Amadour! Presented at the E.L. Cord Museum School at the Nevada Museum of Art. Join artist Amadour for a vibrant, hands-on art workshop designed especially for kids ages 6–12! Shapes, Charades, and Yarn Art invites children into the joyful world of color, imagination, and play—while gently introducing them to the big ideas behind geometric abstraction and land art. Kids will begin the day with interactive activities that explore shapes found in nature and architecture—through group games and visual storytelling that spark curiosity and movement. Together, we'll learn about legendary artists like Nancy Holt, Michael Heizer, and Agnes Martin, whose works responded to the land through form, rhythm, and stillness. Next, participants will dive into a guided yarn art activity using colorful yarn, textured papers, and mixed media materials to create their own abstract landscapes. This hands-on experience encourages tactile creativity, layering, and expression—offering kids a chance to think like artists, all while making something beautiful and unique to take home. Expect laughter, collaboration, and a big dose of summer fun. The workshop is free and open to the public, and all materials will be provided. Following the session, Icecycle Creamery will be on-site with locally made ice cream available for purchase—an optional treat for families who wish to enjoy a sweet ending to their afternoon.
