When Copper Cat Studio owner Katie Packham began teaching mosaics almost 20 years ago, students created a mosaic on a 10x10 framed mirror for the intro class. During Covid, this particular mirror substrate was discontinued. We recently found a stash of these mirrors and are bringing them out for a special Mosaic 101 session just for ARTOWN! Join us for this Intro to the Glue and Grout Method of Mosaic. Katie gives a very detailed lecture on the basics of design, assembly, materials & grouting. All materials are included and feature tesserae from Katie's personal collection -glass tile, metal tiles, rocks, glass gems, shells, marble, stone, ceramic tile, stained glass, handmade tiles and many other finds from around the country and world. Feel free to bring in pieces to add. Students have the option of returning to the studio at a later date for a private grouting session (included in class fee) or taking dry grout home to complete the project. If you think you may want to continue on with mosaics, this is the class that you want to take!
This is a 5 hour workshop with a lunch break factored in. It is a work at your own pace class after the initial lecture. Students may finish earlier. If you would like a shorter class where you can just jump in with a minimal lecture and complete within 3 hours, we have several to choose from during the month of July.
Ages 15+. Pre-registration required. All supplies included.
